What an interesting idea. The project reminds me of so many of the books I heard of or read years ago. It's nice to know that they are still being talked about.
Yeah! I'm wouldn't knock Sartre et de Beauvoir for being polyamourous (in the current terminology), since I endeavour to be super tolerant (it's built into my psychology according to the psych tests), but I do have to say picking off undergrads for quicky affairs is *really* kind of tacky and awful. Talking shit about said undergrads after the fact is a bit much.
Mon plaisir, cheri! 😎 That picture of de Beauvoir's butt stuck in mind when I first saw it on twitter years ago. (I have weakness for cheesecake, particularly mid-20th century cheesecake, sorry! 🫣☺) So I went looking for that, thinking it was Kerouac, and hit the Algren/de Beauvoir except, so I *had* to give that you!

I'm really impressed someone still has the skill to type on a manual.
"Youd will retype The Man with the Golden Arm on the same make/model typewriter that Algren himself used, a Remington 17."
Umm, OK! Sure! (I just remember the movie with Frank Sinatra in it.)

i've never seen or read /leave her to heaven/
_The Man with the Golden Arm_ takes place right after WWII in Polish Chicago. Odd fact about Algren--he had a long affair with Simone de Beauvoir.
Yes, and I clearly missed out on the 'Simone de Beauvoir is horny' time period. ( https://loeildelaphotographie.com/en/simone-de-beauvoir-nue-par-art-shay/ ) (I still think it was Kerouac who called her 'Frenchy'.)
But looking for that got me onto this: https://lithub.com/when-nelson-algren-fell-in-love-with-simone-de-beauvoir/
And this: https://www.btchflcks.com/2014/08/violette-you-wont-see-a-better-portrait-of-queer-women-artists-this-year-or-maybe-ever.html

And this: https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/a-disgraceful-affair-simone-de-beauvoir-jean-paul-sartre-and-bianca-lamblin-by-bianca-lamblin-northeastern-university-press-184pp-pounds-23-50-in-uk-1.66490
So that was wild! 😁

c'est la vie
Quite a trail of passion, intrigue and crazy love.

too much is...ok, maybe it's just too much
elm--the article about NA and SdB was simply wonderful. I had never known how they connected. Will be following up on other recs. Thank you.

late night search follies
I'm sure SdB thought it was ok. She was buried with NA's ring.
Um, they could just type their OWN book.
I am not getting the joke here, obv.
Neither did I but maybe typing is now seen as so arcane...like spinning your own wool?
Such a cool idea!
Manual typewriter. Hard work.
