The Zamorano Club, Southern California’s oldest bibliophilic organization regularly met at the Altadena Town & Country Club. It succumbed to the flames on the night the Eaton fires broke out on January 7, 2025. The club’s president has been keeping members of the organization updated on those who live in the evacuation zones.
The President noted:
“As one of the three trustees of The Antiquarian Booksellers’ Benevolent Fund, I should also add that we have been diligently monitoring the situation and making every effort to expeditiously direct funds to those who have been adversely affected.”
History of the Zamorano Club
The Club is named for Agustín Vicente Zamorano, the first known printer in California, operating a press in Monterey in 1834.1 The club was established in 1928.
In 1945 the club issued “The Zamorano 80: A Selection of Distinguished California Books Made by Members of the Zamorano Club.”2
