Vindolanda was a Roman auxiliary fort north of Hadrian’s Wall which was built between Roman Britannia and unconquered Caledonia. It was under Roman occupation from roughly 85 AD to 370 AD. In 1973 the Vindolanda Tablets were first discovered.
I made a detailed post about this in 2021—"Bring Me Three Large Beers" Vindolanda Tablets at Hadrian's Wall.
Vindolanda Charitable Trust
Today Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum1 are a site for visits and exploration. The Vindolanda Charitable Trust’s aim is to excavate and preserve the Roman remains in the Trust's ownership in the central sector of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. Its original objective was to administer the Vindolanda Roman Fort and its museum, but only two years after its founding in 1970 the Trust acquired the 'sister' Roman site of Magna, 15 minutes from Vindolanda and now administers the established Roman Army Museum tourist attraction next to Magna.
Events held at Vindolanda
Events held at Vindolanda include Light Festivals, Saturnalia and Friends Day.2 The Vindolanda shop includes cufflinks made from ancient oak, fountain pens and magnifying glasses.3 You can stay on site and excavate.4

Another fun Roman site in England is Brading Roman Villa on the Isle of Wight. I've never been there, but I've been following them on Instagram. They've completed quite a restoration and have an intriguing museum. https://bradingromanvilla.org.uk/
