The Taliban ruled in Afghanistan from 1996-2001 as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Yasmina Khandra1 (Mohammed Moulessehoul ) published the novel, The Swallows of Kabul2 set under the rule of the Taliban.
The Swallows of Kabul is about the mentality of Islamic fundamentalists and the complexities of the Muslim world. The Swallows of Kabul is unflinching but compassionate insight into a society that violence and hypocrisy have brought to the edge of despair.
In 2001 the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and established International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to consolidate a new democratic authority in the country and prevent the return of the Taliban and al-Qaeda to power.3
In 2021 the Taliban regained power after a nearly 20-year-long insurgency against allied NATO and Afghan Armed Forces.4
On May 7, 2022 Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers ordered all Afghan women to wear head-to-toe clothing in public.
Mohammed Moulessehoul better known by the pen name Yasmina Khadra is an Algerian author living in France, who writes in French.

Damn. I missed the movie during the Covid and my Long Covid.
