John Dee was a Renaissance polymath known for his passion for mystical subjects, including astrology, alchemy and the world of angels.1 Dee built, and lost, one of the greatest private libraries of 16th century England. His brother-in-law sold it or allowed others to carry it away. The Royal Library of Physicians held an exhibition of the lost library in 2016. 2
The Bibliographical Society maintains a catalogue of Dee’s library.3
Donald Laycock compiled a Dictionary of the Angelic Language As Revealed to Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley.4
The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic located by The Harbour in Boscastle, Cornwall features this rendering of John Dee and Edward Kelley looking into the “shew stone” to receive communications from the angelic realms.

Back about 4 decades ago Carl Sagan once issued the chilling warning (after describing an individual largely believed to be responsible for the destruction of the library at Alexandria) that we must all be vigilant against someone of his ilk rising again because "history is littered with such individuals." I never realized until reading your collection of similar historic atrocities over time that these despoilers are, in fact, legion.
