This is fantastic. The first link has a lot of stuff in it. It's never shown up on my radar that any films were made of FD stuff. Not that I'm surprised. I'll have to check them out. I've had trouble making my way through FD in the past, perhaps the films would be easier. Or maybe I had bad translations.

I think this is because search engines might not pick up Russian. names very well. And one tip I think helps with FD is figuring out the names. When you start to read they

use first name and diminutives then the middle name and it gets so hard to sort you get worn out. I guess I'm grateful for the isolation of COVID because I finally did it--don't know if I would have had the patience or time in normal days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Slavic_naming_customs

I just ordered Demons. I'd been getting around to reading it for years. It's time.

You know, me too--COVID gave me time. It is confusing at first because the historical background isn't that familiar but once you bully through you will be glad. Watch this 4 minute clip w/ English subtitles....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrtjttyAPjo

I didn't make it clear enough in my post above: It was seeing that clip that inspired me to order the book. It was captivating.

I started War and Peace three or four times in my teens and twenties before finally finding a translation that let me bully through the first thirty or forty pages, so I have some experiential appreciation for that aspect of 19th century Russian literature. It's worth it, but you have to pay your dues.

I took some time to find sided-by-side comparisons of the major translations - a fun exercise - and ended up ordering a volume that includes notes, which should help. I've read so much more non-fiction than fiction in the last few years. I'm really looking forward to this. Your post today got the whole thing rolling. Thanks!

I re-read W& P during COVID, too but realized when I first read it I focused on the romance part. This time I figured out the War part and had to get extra history books to follow Napoleon's campaigns. Re-reading both FD and Tolstoy I think FD wears better, deeper. I even subbed to "Soviet Movies Online" to watch a few films. It's very good to realize smart people struggle with this literature we feel like we should know, and come to it a little older and read it with maturity and knowledge of the history which likely did not have when we tried them at 21.

Burning the “Bad Stuff”: School Board Members Call for Book Burning

by Jonathan Turley

We recently discussed a book burning organized by a school district in Canada. Now, members of the Spotsylvania County School Board have called for the burning of books with “sexually explicit” content from school libraries. There has been a disturbing rise in calls for censorship, bans, and removal of books from book stores and other forums. Book burning is the most grotesque manifestation of censorship and view intolerance.

I'm having trouble keeping up. However, it is touching in the days of SM that book burning is still a thing because the books are still available so many ways...but I guess the burners like the image.

Ah yes...the rush of the surge of power for those with the totalitarian urges, Like you say, it is futile to attempt the wiping out of literature in such medieval ways as book burnings...they will have to go high tech and lockdown the Internet. ... Or inject the population with nanobots and control their minds that way. Science fiction becomes science fact with Transhumanism.

Take a look at what is in these mRNA serums...this is a long video conference, so go to the midway point and let it roll from there to see the microscopic images of some of the extraordinary things in the so-called 'vaccines'... perhaps microchips...whatever they are they are nanosized hardware of some sort.

I am sorry to upset your equilibrium in such a way, and to intrude upon your topic. I see this as a crisis, we face something unique and dangerous.

The "book burners" always wanted to rule the world...

COVID19 Has Only EVER Existed On Paper

by JB Lewis

The name, COVID19, was created to segregate it from the legitimate Coronavirus. This was done so that the original, not-so-dangerous virus, can be turned into an invisible terrorist – mixing a little truth with a lot of lies seems to authenticate the issue in the minds of nearly everyone and makes it more believable. By declaring COVID19 as a new bug (novel), a version without a past or known ailments or causes, the idea of it can be used as a (weapon) to control the public at large. In this way, any number of false terrors can be attributed to it; a ghost virus that can (get) you from anywhere and by any means, they say. It is time to realize the media and leaders do not have your best interest at heart.

Side Note: No One Has EVER had COVID-19. Do not confuse it with the actual Coronavirus. COVID-19 is Not a virus. It is a fictional talking point created by the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, The Council on Foreign Relations, The World Health Organization, The Center For Disease Control, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and a few others; conceived only as a tool of manipulation.

It is important for you to know that on October 19, 2019, these groups hosted, what they called, a Tabletop Exercise of a Fictional Novel Coronavirus Pandemic

Wow, that is a chock-full site! It is good that the awareness of the free speech issue has spread. Big concerns have big followings.

O, I am glad you see it. There are so many cases now. But in some ways I think the zoom classes let parents see what is available. All they need to do is go to a bookstore and they would see the same books but somehow a lot of this has emerged in the news. The American Library Association is struggling to document them all. I am kind of watching to see it pulled together. Glad to have more eyes.
