It's good to be reminded of how fragile our museums and libraries are. We need to keep reminding people that records are important and need to be cared for.

This is a major, preventable tragedy. Recordings, in the internet age, are easily preserved and proliferated. Where else are there repositories of such recordings, say, in Latin America, Africa and Asia? Every one is priceless. You are severely limited in your options for action, but the rest of us aren't. Tell us where the others might be, if you know, and let us take on the work.

I am an extraordinarily capable strategic planner, probably because I'm an ultra-high-functioning autistic. If I know where it is, I can create a plan to get recordings copied or sent elsewhere. My father was a fanatic about aviation, and had a tape-to-Betamax copying setup in his basement until he died. He thus preserved thousands of instructional material about older aircraft. Nearly 20 years later his work is still providing benefits.

I'm willing to donate and raise funds, do planning, try to resurrect my international rolodex, whatever it takes except travel. I have taken my last bus trip, plane ride, and ox-cart expedition (no joke on the last one).
