I will admit my first reaction was "...how does one get *rejected* after an application to an organization such as ABBA?" This seems akin to rejection from the Austin, TX Ladies' Gardening Society. Presumably their standards are stringent.
Some think his rejection (as not having an excellent reputation) led him to the Audubon theft/hero action to establish his excellenceness. And it worked! He was later ABBA president.

There are quite few stories of dishonorable book sellers. This is one of the most extreme but libraries are not as secure as they should be. The guys in the other Audubon heist tased a librarian--can you imagine? I have to so many stories and thank you for the encouragement. I never thought the real world would be interested.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your commentariat might not all be directly representative of "the real world." I, for one, exist in a zone extraneous to reality.
Thornton is the detective with multiple personality disorder (dissociative disorder). Alternates include Harold Stassen and Tippi Hedren. McConaughey is the nerdy art historian who falls in love with the Tippi Hendren personality.

omigosh! that man went from hero to bad guy in two short paragraphs! cool story! I see Woody Harrelson playing the lead in the movie.
He was such a crazy guy and was found dead (suicide) in a river...I didn't want to make this too long but the book is worth reading.

Don't forget he did a stint as the lead singer in ABBA!
You mean there is another ABBA????
I'm so glad you caught that bullet. It took everything I had to resist.

You have a long way to go to reach my level of puerility.
I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard.
Billy Bob Thornton and Matthew McConaughey should be involved in some capacity as well.
Woody and Matthew should never again be apart.

Rare books are quite full of stories. Tippi's daughter married Don Johnson and Antonio Banderas and Steven Bauer.
What? She snagged two of Melanie's husbands?
next-level gag. [applause emoji]
OH NO! Melanie was also married to Steven Bauer!!!! That's all three of them! that's next level stalking. That woman's Melanie's husband-remora.
Fascinating!
This is a great story! I wish someone would make a movie of it.
