Amy Coney Barrett- Book Protested
Penguin Random House employees protest publishing Amy Coney Barrett book
More than 500 members of the literary community are urging Penguin Random House to reconsider its decision to publish Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s forthcoming book.1
The letter of Dissent appeared on Instagram at “Publishers Brunch.”2
“Many of us work daily with books we find disagreeable to our personal politics. Rather, this is a case where a corporation has privately funded the destruction of human rights with obscene profits.
“Barrett is free to say as she wishes, but Penguin Random House must decide whether to fund her position at the expense of human rights in order to inflate its bottom line, or to truly stand behind the values it proudly espouses to hold. We … cannot stand idly by while our industry misuses free speech to destroy our rights.”
The book is being published by Sentinel, an imprint and trade name of Penguin Random House. The imprint focuses on conservative content and has recently published books written by Dave Rubin, Ann Coulter and Reihan Salam.
Well, in good old fashion, all these employees are free to "resign in protest". That would be a real show of conviction. This will, of course, never happen. Because they don't really believe any of what they are saying but want to simply virtue signal which, in their minds, gives them a victim status paired with moral superiority. It's another "brave" # revolt. The irony in all of this is breathtaking. A Supreme Court Judge should be deprived of her 1st amendment right in order to protect more important "rights"? Lol
I think this cancel culture needs to end. Let the employees stand by their convictions and resign. Let the book be published and be debated in the court of public opinion.
