Japan destroyed the Oriental Library of Shanghai in 1932.
THE Oriental Library in Shanghai, China built by The Commercial Press was destroyed by Japanese bombs and arson during the “January 28 incident” in 1932. Estimates vary, but at least 300,000 books and ancient manuscripts were lost. A historical marker commemorates the library.
